KEYNOTE: The Kim Kardashian Principle - Innovation in the age of celebrity obsession, fake news & alternative facts.

The world's leading expert on celebrity branding, Jeetendr Sehdev reveals what lessons we can learn from the rise of Kim Kardashian, fake news and alternative facts to make our own ideas, products and services breakthrough.

Jeetendr says today’s successful images – ones of Kim Kardashian being among the most famous – are not photoshopped to perfection but flawed, vulnerable and in your face. These images deliver a level of authenticity that traditional marketing tactics just can't touch.

A trail blazer in pop-culture insights, Jeetendr has become one of the most prominent figures in celebrity news and a sought-after adviser to international brands. His research on the power of YouTube stars versus traditional celebrities has shaken up the entertainment industry, and gained him over a million followers on social media. A familiar face on the Today Show, Access Hollywood, CNN and Fox News, Jeetendr was educated at Oxford University and Harvard Business School. His new book The Kim Kardashian Principle, (St. Martin's Press) is releasing worldwide in Spring of 2017 and is available to pre-order today.

KEYNOTE: The Measurement Myth - When Babies, Puppies and Boobs lead you astray

Ashley Vinson is a leading authority when it comes to Marketing and Twitter. Until recently as Head of Brand Strategy she has been advising and coaching broadcasters and clients all over Europe on how to use social media to it's best advantage. But here's the good part, she knows all about the pitfalls of reading into the wrong numbers, of making a huge spike in your awareness only then to see it all fall away. Ashley is going to dispel the measurement myth and give us all an illumination into how best to execute and deliver social marketing that's not just a numbers game.

CAMPAIGN INSIGHTS

Where Next For Promos?

In a follow up to their 2015 session on the Future of Channel branding, this time we take a provocative look at why our promo campaigns still look remarkably similar to how they did 30 years ago, when the environment they are viewed in, and our audience behaviour has shifted so radically.

From the shape and length of campaigns, to the individual trailers, everything needs re-evaluating. How do we, as an industry, start to embrace greater innovation in promotional campaigns? From hyper personalisation and smart use of big data to vertical video, 360 video, AI trailers, dynamic video (where YOU feature), what are the most exciting new innovations in online video, this stimulating session takes you through the very latest in interactive video technology and ground-breaking promotional strategies, and shows how brands and broadcasters have used new techniques to engage with audiences beyond traditional trailer edits.

It will be a session that does all the above, talks about tips and tricks for getting the best results on platforms (like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook), how to plan ‘reactivity’ and inevitably some thoughts on doing fewer promotions, but doing them bigger and better.

Speakers:
Jim DeZoete, Deputy Executive Creative Director, Red Bee
Charlie Mawer, Executive Creative Director, Red Bee

Promo Disruption - Increasing promotion outside your own ecosystem

Wish your promo had a smarter digital distribution life? And how about the old question - Where can I find something worth watching on TV for me?

Technology is being invented that can re-distribute promotion and other content from broadcasters to digital platforms. Suddenly all the promos that TV channels produce can end up in web and app based TV guides, on the EPGs of TV providers, in the entertainment editorials of online magazines and on a multitude of social media platforms. Combining this with programmatic buying, broadcasters can now connect people’s internet habits and behaviour with promos that may pique their tastes and interest.

How will it affect the way promos are produced in terms of tempo and duration? And what about the analytics broadcasters will be able to get? With 100% digital presence, they’ll be able to see who watches the promos, where they live, how old they are, if they viewed it all the way through, if they prefer one type of promotion over another, etc. This session will delve into the new and upcoming technology that will truly revolutionise the broadcasting industry. How will the broadcasters take advantage of it and what will it mean for an industry battling against the complexity of the digital world?

Speakers:
Daniel Halasz, Co-Founder & CMO, PromoMii
Michael Moss, Co-Founder & CEO, PromoMii

360 on a shoestring

The dynamics in the market are forever changing, But in the last decade, things have never shifted so rapidly. It’s almost impossible to keep up with all the trends in technology, marketing, social media and content consumption. Traditional marketing & promotion techniques are still being applied across the globe, but need to be considered very carefully on how they should be deployed. And with budgets tightening and deadlines shortening, there’s an increase pressure to always be relevant and up to date with your communication strategy. So how can you ensure that you are able to facilitate your marketing needs, stay relevant, and develop a creative impact with your brand that demonstrates your brand values, and at the same time stand out from the rest. Making sure your audience is engaged, your message liked, and your word is spread.

CREATIVE STRATEGY

Craft Masters - From linear to multi platform, communicating a clear visual strategy

Today’s media clutter makes it difficult to stand out and reach your audience. Creating a clear multi-channel visual strategy enables you to develop content, campaigns and promotions that make you stand out, connect with your audience, keep ownership of your content and grow your brand. The development, creation and production of coherent media identities is what we call visual strategy.

To create a multi-channel visual strategy we bring clarity and emotion to a brand. We do this by creating a ‘frame of mind’. The emotional state and visual framework through which the audience can connect with your brand across all touch-points. It’s the brand that covers all experiences that your audience gains in interaction with your product or service. Therefore, the brand essence should be at the centre of your brand development.

In this session we will go further into the process of creating a clear multi-channel visual strategy, the benefits and starting points it delivers for the development of remarkable and relevant content as well as campaigns.

Host:
Lester Mordue, European Director of Conference and Relations, PromaxBDA

Speakers:
Fabian Birgfeld, CEO, W12 Studios
Richard Morrison, Founder and Creative Director, The Morrison Studio

Disruption Eruption

Realise your value and opportunity comes knocking.

Disruption offers an opportunity to embrace change. Broadcast has morphed into a TV-everywhere environment as viewers create and consume content on their smartphones, through the internet and on smart televisions.

As broadcast marketers, our challenge is urgent: cement and secure our place in and outside of a traditional channel environment. How do we assist our networks in the ever-present and ever-pressing concept of promoting shows, maintaining, tracking and creating a growing audience in the TV-everywhere environment?

DATA

Is the devil in the detail? - Get data heaven not data hell.

How Data can be killing and saving the creative industry at the same time. For so long now, we've been told that a data driven world will be able to unlock and solve all our creative and marketing challenges. Unsurprisingly, that hasn't quite materialised. If anything, creative industries are paralysed by too much data - from viewing figures to social platform demographics and behaviours.

What solutions can we trust and what is proven to work. Have analytics and consumer data replaced marketing strategy? Are algorithms doing more harm than good?

Garret Keogh, a digital expert from TV and agency land introduces this session with Anastasia Leng, Picasso Labs and Jon Watts, MTM

A panel of experts will joint for an in-depth and far reaching conversation to help us all make sense of this space and identify the real opportunities amidst the hype.

Host:
Garret Keogh, Founder, One Great Day

How has social changed the data landscape? How do we evaluate audience size and behaviour in a multi platform landscape? What are the trends and the technologies that are delivering and are more than just hype?

Speaker:

Data Saves the Video Star

As imagery and video grow to dominate the way brands communicate with consumers, and consumers communicate with each other, what data can we use to become expert visual communicators? Using imagery from Donald Trump's campaign and the most recent fashion week, we explore how artificial intelligence can now provide insights on which visual properties are cutting through with our audience, but more importantly, why.

Speaker:
Anastasia Leng, Founder & CEO, Picasso Labs

Building the data-enabled marketing function – challenges and opportunities for the entertainment industry

Exploring VR Content and its Marketing Use

It's no secret that brands use VR to successfully sell products. From real-estate to leisure and autos. It's being used for gaming, sports and news. And now it's the storytelling tool of the day for drama and comedy...and its all being monetized.

There is no doubt the immersive experience can be utilized successfully to market. But how can it work to help an audience discover new content on any platform?

VR is not just a promo gimmick, it's a powerful tool that can excite and astound, educate and entertain. Put those things together in the first new media to come along since the World Wide Web, and you've got something that can change behavior, make you change the channel, help you discover something you may not have known about, or just reach you in a completely different way.

But it's not without its challenges.

How can you direct attention? What role does immersive sound play? How can you make graphics work effectively? This panel will explore this and more, and it will expose you to some new ways to think about how to use VR in marketing.

Mr Bingo worked as a commercial illustrator for 15 years, with his work appearing on book jackets, advertising, TV, magazines, newspapers and packaging.

In 2015 he launched a kickstarter to fund a book which was a retrospective of his hugely popular Hate Mail project.

This was a turning point in his life and he realised that if the public were willing to fund his silly ideas, maybe he could turn this into a ‘career’ and stop working for clients for ever.

PromaxBDA Academy: The Harmony Between Motion & Design

The perfectly timed movement of objects forming compositions tells the story and forms a desired emotion in the viewer’s mind. This can be achieved by number of ways, such as the placement of an object or character into the frame; its movements, the angle and camera position – animation 101. On the other hand there is a style of design - colors, shapes and lines which have an immediate impact on the eye. These two may slightly discord and lose grip of attention to leave a feeling of something that’s missing. And a major task is to find balance between the motion and design. So how is it achieved? What tools? And what knowledge brings harmony into all animated elements?

Truth in a Post Truth Era

No one really trusts what the media is telling them, much less brands.

We are now told that we live in an era of post-truth. An era where the actual truth matters less and less, as fact become distorted and, if said often enough, anything can be believed.

As the media landscape continues to shift and the fundamental idea of ‘the truth' becomes more eroded and disregarded, the mistrust of brands would continue to grow.

The messages of brands are omnipresent, everywhere, all the time. We are bombarded with them daily from noon till night and to have any chance at cutting through, brands need not just got to be better but have to be smarter too.

To allow their audiences to relate, invest and engage, brands now need to find ways to gain their trust. If trust comes from an open, honest message — of communicating a truth – then brands need to find ways of doing this through real emotional insights, integrity and being relevant to people’s actual experiences. By constantly questioning brand narratives and confronting difficult truths, brands can create an honest and powerful dialogue with an increasingly sceptical audience.

Founder & Creative Director at multi award-winning motion design studio Art&Graft, Mike Moloney discusses identifying the truth, emotional insights and integrity of a brand, playing to it’s strengths, harnessing it's power, creating branding design that actually cuts through and connects with the audience in the Post-Truth era.

KEYNOTE: A PromaxBDA Interview with John Rotten

Lydon remains a compelling and dynamic figure - both as a musician and, thanks to his outspoken, controversial, yet always heartfelt and honest statements, as a cultural commentator.
