Turner Launches Boomerang Subscription Service

Time Warner’s Turner and Warner Bros. have teamed up for a new VOD subscription service, Boomerang, that will offer thousands of episodes from classic and current series.

The ad-free streaming service starts at $5 per month, and pulls content from the Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes and MGM animation library of more than 5,000 titles.

It will serve as the exclusive home to new episodes of Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry, and will feature other classic series such as The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Popeye and Bugs Bunny.

The platform also will host a slate of new, original series such as Warner Bros. Animation’s Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and Wacky Races, an overhaul of the 1960s Hanna-Barbera series. Content will be updated weekly.

“We are bringing the best new and classic characters to kids, families and animation fans so they can now watch their favorites anywhere, anytime on any screen,” Craig Hunegs, President, Business and Strategy, Warner Bros. Television Group and President, Warner Bros. Digital Networks, said in a statement.

Turner will continue to distribute the linear Boomerang TV channel, featuring many of the same titles, to pay-TV providers worldwide. The streaming service serves as complementary content, Variety reports.

Boomerang is available in the U.S. through the web and on iOS and Android devices for $4.99 per month (with a seven-day free trial) or $39.99 annually (with a 30-day free trial.)

The service is expected to expand to more platforms including Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Apple TV.
