Netflix released the official trailer and key art for new original series The Crown, which tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign as she takes the throne at the age of 25, just after her wedding, as the declining British Empire is recovering from war in the second half of the 20th century.
Based on the Tony-winning play The Audience by Peter Morgan, who serves as a writer on the series, the show offers a inside look at Queen Elizabeth’s (Claire Foy) world, and her struggle to reconcile her personal life and public role, the Monarchy, and political rivalries among post-war politics.
John Lithgow stars as Sir Winston Churchill in the historic drama, along with Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, Victoria Hamilton as the Queen Mother, Jared Harris as King George VI, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret and Dame Eileen Atkins as Queen Mary.
Directed by Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and produced by Andy Harries (The Queen) The Crown premieres Friday, November 4 on Netflix.
