‘Stranger Things’ Leads MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations

by Cate Lecuyer Marian  |  04.06.2017

Landing four nominations, Stranger Things is leading the television side of MTV’s Movie & TV Awards, which includes television and streaming for the first time in its 25-year history.

Atlanta, Game of Thrones and This is Us all nabbed three nominations, tying for second.

The network has also done away with gender divisions, nixing the Best Actress categories. On the TV front, Atlanta’s Donald Glover, Game of Throne’s Emilia Clarke, Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez, The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan, This is Us’ Mandy Moore and Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown will all compete as Best Actors.

In the spirit of “nominating the best performances no matter the screen,” MTV will also mix film, television and streaming nominees together in some categories, like Best Kiss, Best Villain, Best Hero and Best Comedic Performance.

And the network added “new, culturally relevant categories,” that include: Best American Story, Best Fight Against the System, Tearjerker, Best Host and Best Reality Competition.

Adam Devine, nominated for Comedy Central’s Workaholics, will host the ceremony which airs live Sunday, May 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can vote at MTV.com.
