On Earth Day, Nat Geo Celebrates Its Brand

by Paige Albiniak  |  04.23.2017

Nat Geo continued what’s becoming an ongoing tradition of launching shows with live, on-the-ground activations over this weekend’s Earth Day and March for Science in Washington, D.C. on April 22 to promote its new scripted drama, Genius, which premieres Tuesday, April 25.

In a similar fashion, Nat Geo also took advantage of SXSW this year, with its Further base camp.

To educate marchers about its new show, Nat Geo set up a charging tent on the National Mall, giving people a place to rest while recharging their phones and taking advantage of free branded Wi-Fi.

For those who could not be in Washington, D.C., for the march, Nat Geo also worked with Facebook on a promotion for the show, featuring an Einstein chatbot that has a conversation with you on Facebook Messenger. The chatbot tells you about Einstein’s life and loves – including more than just physics – and serves up lots of gifs and stills from the upcoming series.

Nat Geo also sponsored and participated in this year’s Earth Optimism Summit from April 21-23 and led by the Smithsonian Conservation Commons. Beyond having its explorers, executives and scientists speaking on panels at the summit, Nat Geo also hosted an interactive exhibit space offering Earth Day-focused content.
