by Paige Albiniak  |  10.07.2016

This year’s annual Doctor Who Christmas special, titled The Return of Dr. Mysterio, stars current Doctor Peter Capaldi and Matt Lucas and is written by Emmy-winning lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat.

BBC America offered New York Comic-Con attendees this behind-the-scenes first look at production during the network’s Madison Square Garden panels on Friday.

Doctor Who returns in 2017 with a new season starring Capaldi, Pearl Mackie as the Doctor’s new companion Bill and Lucas as Nardole. The first episode is written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Lawrence Gough. Writers this season include award-winning screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Sarah Dollard and Mike Bartlett.
