Josh Line Named Comedy Central EVP, Marketing and Creative

by Cate Lecuyer Marian  |  05.04.2017

Comedy Central has hired Josh Line as executive vice president, marketing and creative, where he will be a key member of the channel’s senior leadership team.

In the role, Line will oversee all facets of strategic and creative brand development, consumer marketing and cross-business initiatives.

He joins Comedy Central from parent company Viacom, where he worked as senior vice president, marketing strategy, trends and insights, directing teams responsible for the company’s marketing and brand strategy.

He will be based in New York offices and report to Comedy Central General Manager Tanya Giles.

“Josh’s deep, creative background and substantial experience in strategy development and implementation is a perfect combination as we look to further expand and elevate the Comedy Central brand,” said Giles in a statement.

Line joined Viacom in 2011 as an early member of Scratch, a creative strategy and consulting division that channeled Viacom’s understanding of its audiences and cultural force to build brands. During his time with Scratch, now known as Velocity Culture and Creative Insights within the company's in-house branded content studio Viacom Velocity, Line led a number of internal and external projects, including a broad partnership with General Motors to redefine the company’s position with young people.

“Comedy Central is a brand that drives the cultural conversation like no other, revealing the funny truths in our shared experiences,” said Line. “I couldn’t be more excited to join this incredibly talented team to take this essential brand to new heights.”

Prior to Viacom, Line held client leadership roles at creative agencies Droga5, Anomaly and TBWA/Chiat/Day, overseeing marketing and innovation projects for companies such as Coca-Cola, BMW, Disney, and Pfizer. He launched eos lip balm and Avec Eric, the Emmy Award-winning media and business venture of four-star Chef Eric Ripert.

“If Josh is nearly as smart, strategic and thoughtful as he appears, we are in very good hands,” said Comedy Central President Kent Alterman.
