Police tape crosses the screen multiple times, reminding the audience of recent stories of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, and then resolves itself into a version of the American flag, in the above title sequence created by Los Angeles-based Shine.

The limited series, created by Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood, premiered on Fox on Wednesday, March 22. It stars Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James and Stephen Moyer in a story about a small North Carolina town that's turned upside down when a black police officer kills an unarmed white college student, and the resulting investigations revives interest in the neglected murder of a black teen.
